Supporting "BatFirst" for Auckland Schools (1 minute read)
For those of you that know Steve, he’s a pretty passionate cricketer! With two young boys who are cricket mad, he spends most of his weekends on the cricket field himself as well, either coaching or umpiring.
And with the surname Crowe, what else would you expect??
So when he received an email from Auckland Cricket recently requesting sponsorship towards an initiative to promote cricket amongst Year 3 children in lower decile schools, well it was a no-brainer really.
“More kids playing cricket? Absolutely! It’s not the physical aspect - cricket is a game of strategy, teamwork and patience. It’s got everything, there’s nothing better than being out on the field with all your mates”, says Steve.
About BatFirst
Last year Auckland Cricket engaged with 48 schools, across 280 lunchtime sessions, creating a difference for 8,140 kids. They want want to reach more kids, more classes and more schools each year.
BatFirst aims to put a BatFirst pack in the hands of every Year 3 child attending a Decile 1 to 5 school in Auckland. Their long-term goal is to offer children physical activity opportunities, which can assist in their overall educational and social development.
One of the biggest barriers for children being physically active can be having the tools to start. BatFirst aims to remove that and introduce basic ideas to start playing.
